2.1.1 Selecting a domain
Selecting a good domain name is an important step. There are basically two approaches (cases).
- Domain name = Title of your digital product.
Always is a good idea to take a domain name that is the title of your e-book or the title of your music album.
All the important movies have the associated domain.
Please make sure that your digital product title has good keywords so it can be easily found on Google, if not, you should change your product title, if this is possible obviously.
This solution might seem too expensive but you can select a webhosting provider with a hosting plan that supports multiple websites in one account. In this case you will pay only the domain names and one hosting plan.
- Domain name = Group of digital products.
I can understand that you cannot afford to have five domains for five digital products. So in this case what you should do? The best way is to take an generic domain like GoodEbooks.com and use five subdomains like :
- myebook1.GoodEbooks.com
- myebook2.GoodEbooks.com
- etc...
Attention, if you want to use this option make sure that your domain provider gives you the ability to have personal DNS Management in order to control your subdomains and your hosting provider accepts more than one subdomain.
Once you have found a name you should see if this domain name is available to buy.
You can use free services like
whois.net or
register.com finding out if your selected domain is available or not. If the domain name is already registered try to modify the name or change the domain extension, .net extension is a great alternative for example.
