7.5.1 Google submission

A lot of you may know Google.com as a search engine but only some of you may know that google offers webmaster tools for every webmaster.

Go to www.google.com/webmasters and press at the 'Sign in to the Webmasters tools' . Figure fig:48

If you are not registered at Google (you do not have any gmail account etc ...) register one account for free and log in. Once logged at Google Webmaster Tools you have to give your website url. Figure fig:49

Now you have to verify your given website by pressing the verify link. Figure fig:50

It is preferred to choose the 'Upload an HTML file' option. Create the file asked (empty file) and upload it at the root of your website with a ftp client. Then press the 'Verify' button. Figure fig:51

Once verified you can add your website sitemap by clicking at 'sitemaps', 'add sitemap'. In that page select 'Add General Web Sitemap' give your sitemap url ('sitemap.xml') and press the 'Add General Web Sitemap' button. Now you have submitted your site at Google. It takes about a week for Google to index your website so be patient. Figure fig:52

Google Webmaster Tools does not offer only submission of sitemaps but other cool stuff about your site and some special statistics. Take some time to find out all the potentiality of this free service offered by Google.
