I have added subs to all 19 ep. of Prison Break, LOL version. And I don't regenerate in AVIMux_GUI first, I add subtitles directly in AviSub.

if the source avi has dropframes then the output will be with NOT syncronised audio (divxmux ignores them and proceeds to the next frame)
the files that need regenration (with avimux or virtualdubmod) usually are the files wich had been created with NANDUB (hardware players hate that files too)

Any files that have "Audio sample size 16 bit" in their audio properties cannot be processed by AviSub...

Even if you use AviMux to regenerate an avi without "Audio sample size 16 bit", that avi cannot be processed either

P.S. Tried it with 24 season 5 episode 1

I don't know if "regeneration" is the same thing that I discovered, but if you open your problematic .avi file in virtualdubmod and make a copy (direct stream copy) it works nice with Avisub, and it take only a minute or two. Sometimes, if the sound is VBR you need to answear "no" to the first question of virtualdubmod after loading the problematic file (if you answear "yes" you will receive file with desynhronised audio).
Not every file works with this method, but I made my whole series of Lost 2 to work this way. With Doctor Who it adds sibtitles, divx player shows them, but in my Philips DVDR 3380/05 it recognises, that there ARE subtitles, but doesn't show them. Have no idea why. Anyone can help?

I have the same problem as you guys. All my Prison Break ep. work fine to add subtitles with AviSub, but not Lost and 24.

After doing some research I came up with a working method.
I don't know why, but it works and thats good enough for me.

Now I have added subtitles to several Lost and 24 episodes.

This is my solution.

Download AVIMux_GUI: http://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=AVIMux_GUI
Install and open the program.
Add your Avi file in "open files"(drag and drop) window.
Click the Avi file and click the button "generate data source from file".
Now the video and audio lines appear in the window below.(There should be no line with subtitles)
Click Start button and save the file.

When finished, takes about 3 minutes, open your new Avi file with AviSub, load subtitles and Generate Subbed Avi.

Hope it works for you as good it worked for me Very Happy

By the way, trustfm, Avisub is a good program.

Dear isah,
I tried your method but after loading subtitles and during generation avisub stop working.

Question Question

did you try to do it via virtualdubmod? instead of avimux_gui try virtualdubmod. I had the same problems with avimux.

I tried many solutions (avimux, change the FOURCC...) but none of them match for some files. I discovered that the .avi that doesn't work were those without bvop. I think it's bug/limit/feature? in divxmux.exe. Can someone confirm this ?
P.S : I check my avi files with mediainfo ( http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/ )
