How to get a FREE domain name and a FREE hosting plan

Part 3 - Hosting plan

2) Finding a decent hosting plan

In the meanwhile you can register for a free account in one of these web hosting providers :

    000webhost (works from 2007)
    zymic (works from 2007)
    heliohost (works from 2008)
    awardspace (works from 2006)
    freehostia (works from 2005)

If no one covers you take a look here: freewebspace.net and here: free-webhosts.com

For paid web hosting providers i have used and recommend :
    bluehost (works from 2003)
    hostgator (works from 2002)
    fatcow (works from 2000)

3) Connecting your host with your domain name

Log in at your web host and hit the "domain-manager" or "add on domains" option from your private cPanel.
Now select the "Host domain" option and add "yourdomain.eu.org".
Once the domain is added the host provider should give you his nameservers.
It you can not find the nameservers search them on Google.

Examples :
for heliohost :
    ns1.heliohost.org
    ns2.heliohost.org

for awardspace :
    ns5.awardspace.com
    ns6.awardspace.com

for freehostia :
    dns1.freehostia.com
    dns2.freehostia.com

and so on ...

Now go to https://eu.org/arf/
Give your username (ex : AK123-FREE) and password and hit "login".
Hit the "domains" option (https://eu.org/arf/en/) , select your domain from the domain list, and click on "Nameservers" button.
Give the nameservers of your host for example :
    ns5.awardspace.com
    ns6.awardspace.com
and hit submit.
If you get no errors you have just to wait 24-48 hours for the nameserver update.

If they send you an email telling you about the nameserver change replay to the mail in order to confirm the nameserver change.

Once your domain is "online" you can go to ClouDNS log in and delete your DNS zone called "yourdomain.eu.org"

You are done !

In the case of Bluehost the procedure is a bit different since they have a verifying ownership procedure.
Log in to your bluehost cPanel
Hit the "addon domain"
Select : "Use a domain that is not already associated with your account."
Give "yourdomain.eu.org" and wait the page to reload.

At verify ownership of the sub-domain "yourdomain.eu.org" please point the nameservers for the sub-domain "yourdomain.eu.org" to:
NS1.BLUEHOST.COM, NS2.BLUEHOST.COM
The nameservers are currently set to ns11.cloudns.net ...

OR

You may also set the DNS "A" record for the sub-domain "yourdomain.eu.org" to point to "BLUEHOST_IP". (Note: recent changes to DNS records may take a few hours to propagate)

Now you should stop the procedure of adding your domain at bluehost.

Go to https://eu.org/arf/
Give your username (ex : AK123-FREE) and password and hit "login".
Hit the "domains" option (https://eu.org/arf/en/) , select your domain from the domain list, and click on "Nameservers" button.
Set "Check for correctness of" at server names.
Try to add the NS1.BLUEHOST.COM, NS2.BLUEHOST.COM
If eu.org accepts them you are ready to go.
Unfortunately to me this method did not worked.

In this case you have to go to ClouDNS and select the created zone called "yourdomain.eu.org"
Hit on "A" and add a "A" record.
At "host" field leave empty for yourdomain.eu.org
At "points to" field give the BLUEHOST_IP given to you.
Again hit on "A" and add a second "A" record.
At "host" field write "www" for yourdomain.eu.org
At "points to" field give the BLUEHOST_IP given to you
Now save and wait a couple of hours.

Log in to your Bluehost cPanel again
Hit the "addon domain"
Select : "Use a domain that is not already associated with your account."
Give "yourdomain.eu.org" and wait the page to reload.

This time the "verify ownership" check should be passed, if not, retry later.
Select "Addon Domain"
Select "Create a new directory" : public_html/yourdomaineuorg
Sub-domain : yourdomaineuorg.YOURBLUEHOSTDOMAIN.com

If you get no errors you have just to wait 24-48 hours for the nameserver update.

Once your domain is "online" using the ClouDNS temporally nameservers it is time to change to the final Bluehost nameservers.

Go to https://eu.org/arf/
Give your username (ex : AK123-FREE) and password and hit "login".
Click the "domains" link (https://eu.org/arf/en/) , select your domain from the domain list, and click on "Nameservers" button.
Now you can change successfully your nameservers to NS1.BLUEHOST.COM, NS2.BLUEHOST.COM

If they send you an email telling you about the nameserver change replay to the mail in order to confirm the nameserver change.

Wait 24-48 hours for the nameserver update.

Once you are "online" go to ClouDNS log in and delete your DNS zone called "yourdomain.eu.org"

You are done !
